Colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals. It is rich in protein, growth factors, and immune factors. Bovine colostrum is almost identical to human colostrum in terms of its beneficial components and is four times richer in immune factors than human colostrum. Over 2000 studies have documented the safety and efficacy of using colostrum for a variety of conditions.
Nutrient rich colostrum contains the following major components:
- Immunoglobins – these function as antibodies. Immunoglobin G (IgG) counteracts bacteria and toxins in the blood and lymphatic system; IgM works on viruses in the circulatory system; IgD and IgE activate allergic reactions and remove foreign substances from the blood stream. High quality colostrum contains at least 16% immunoglobins.
- Lactoferrin – transports iron to red blood cells.
