Valerian, also commonly called garden heliotrope, is found throughout Europe, Asia and North America. For centuries it has been prized for its soothing qualities. Valerian gained in popularity in the 17th century and was commonly used for insomnia and to help relieve stress-related anxiety and nervous restlessness.
Research has confirmed that these applications are more than just superstition. In 2003, scientists discovered that the sedative and sleep enhancing properties of valerian were related to two flavonoids: 6-methylapigenin and Hesperidin. Valerian acts as a natural tranquilizer and may help soothe anxiety, nervous tension, insomnia and headaches.
Studies have shown that valerian can reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep and it helps improve the quality of sleep. An added benefit is that valerian does not have the side effects such as drowsiness the next day.
Each capsule of our 4:1 valerian root extract is equal to 500 mg of Valerian root powder. Also available in liquid form.
Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement adults take one (1) capsule two (2) to six (6) times daily with meals, or as directed by a health care professional. Store in a cool, dry place and away from direct light.
