DHEA is a natural steroid, a prohormone produced by the adrenal glands, adipose tissue, brain etc. it is made from cholesterol. DHEA is mostly produced in the adrenal gland’s zona reticularis. As such it is said to have a role in the response to stress as well as immunity.
After the age of 40, the DHEA level in the body begins to decrease. Hence the production of the hormones androgen, testosterone, and the estrogens, estradiol and estrone, are reduced. But DHEA by Natrol is identical to natural DHEA. So the body accepts it in the same way as it does natural DHEA. Some studies suggest that it may lower overall body mass and improve erectile dysfunction in men.
