History and Usage:

Jarrow FORMULAS® Beta Glucan potentiates and modulates the immune response. Glucans have been investigated for many years for their immune enhancing qualities, especially their ability to activate macrophage immune cells and selected cytokines and complement.

Beta Glucan is derived from WGP® 3–6, a special ß1,3 / ß1,6 glucan extract of the cell walls of Baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). It contains components that enhance cellular glucose metabolism. Additionally, immune function is activated by stimulation of NK cells, granulocytes and monocytes. Beta glucans are delivered to bone marrow granulocytes by macrophages traveling through lymphatic circulation after oral consumption.

As a supplement, Beta glucan is ingested through macrophage and dendritic immune cells to yield, through immune response potentiation and modulation, various therapeutic healing effects generated by the immune cells.

Clinical trials demonstrate that WGP® 3–6 has immunogenic activity. It is protected by more than 40 patents.
