ALCA™ 500 combines the amino acids Acetyl-L-Carnitine and L-Arginine in a unique molecular structure to form Acetyl-L-Carnitine Arginate. Acetyl L-Carnitine (also known as Acetylcarnitine, acetyl L-carnitine, acetyl L-carnitine, or L-acetylcarnitine) is a form of L-Carnitine, but more bioavailable. Acetyl L-Carnitine transports nutrients into cells that are necessary for energy production, yielding the energy molecule ATP. Similarly, the acetyl group of acetyl L-carnitine aids in the formation of acetyl-CoA, a very important link in processing energy from amino acids, fats, and carbohydrates, and is used to make the necessary brain chemical acetylcholine. As an antioxidant, Acetyl-L-Carnitine protects neurons from damage caused by superoxide radicals.

L-arginine helps rid the body of ammonia and is used to make compounds in the body such creatine, L-glutamate, and L-proline. L-arginine can be converted to glucose and glycogen. L-arginine is also used to make the nitric oxide, a compound in the body that relaxes blood vessels and aids circulation.
