  • Helps with protein synthesis.
  • Enhances creatine production.
  • Benefits the cardiovascular system.

L-arginine was first isolated in 1886. In 1932, Scientists discovered that L-arginine is essential in the creation of urea, a necessary waste product for ammonia to be removed from the body. Seven years later, in 1939, researchers learned that L-arginine is also needed to make creatine.

L-arginine is used to make compounds in the body such creatine, L-glutamate, and L-proline. L-arginine can be converted to glucose and glycogen. L-arginine is also used to make the nitric oxide, a compound in the body that relaxes blood vessels and aids circulation.

L-arginine is considered a semi-essential amino acid because even though the body normally produces it, supplementation is needed.

L-arginine is used to make protein and has been studied for its effects on wound healing, muscle building, enhanced sperm production (spermatogenesis), and wasting prevention in the critically ill.
