History and Usage:

BCAA (branched-chain amino acid) Complex not only contains the ideal 2:1:1 ratio of the free form, crystalline branched-chain amino acids L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine, but combines it with the essential amino acid L-Glutamine. The higher amount of Leucine reflects its importance in muscle metabolism as the most effective branch chain amino acid for stimulation of protein synthesis. It has a higher energy bioavailability than other amino acids. Without the proper ratio of L-Leucine to other amino acids, protein synthesis is hindered. The body does not make L-Leucine; it must be acquired through the diet.

BCAAs make use of an anticatabolic effect. They reduce the breakdown of protein in the muscles, thus protecting important muscle tissue.
