History and Usage:

Jarrow Formulas® Green Tea 500 is water extracted and comprises 40% polyphenols, including 30% catechins. Catechins are the building blocks of OPCs (OligoProanthoCyanidins) and are generally more bioavailable and more potent antioxidants than proanthocyanidins.

Tea is derived from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis. Green tea is not fermented, unlike black and oolong tea, resulting in fewer active constituents becoming inactive in the herb. Green tea consists of a variety of chemical components, including vitamins, minerals, volatile oils and other essential nutrients. The primary compounds that give green tea its popular health and medicinal benefits are polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Green has been shown to reduce harmful LDL cholesterol levels, aid detoxification, and may act to inhibit cancer cells.
