Jarrow Formulas Ginkgo Biloba 50:1 is standardized at 24% ginkgoflavonglycosides (or heterosides) with a minimum of 6% terpene lactones. The leaves of the ginkgo tree, which can live up to 1,000 years, are the medicinally active component. One of the major health benefits of ginkgo biloba is as a circulatory aid, supporting blood flow to the brain which may benefit memory loss, tinnitus, vertigo, high blood pressure, and headaches. Ginkgo contributes a powerful antioxidant effect on the body, protecting both the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system.
Two categories of active constituents are credited with the medical benefits of Ginkgo biloba extract: flavone glycosides and terpene lactones. Ginkgo flavone glycosides are house the primary antioxidant effects and the terpene lactones are responsible for the benefits on the circulation system.
