Many of us have enjoyed ginger in our food for many years. Gingerbread, ginger snaps, and ginger ale are just a few of the popular foods utilizing the spicy root. Those popular foods have their roots (no pun intended) in ancient medicinal uses. Today, ginger still enjoys popularity and finds application to a number of health needs.
Historically ginger has been used as a digestive aid. The ancient Greeks would wrap bits of ginger root in their bread and eat it after dinner to help their digestion. This eventually led to the development of gingerbread. Later the English started making Ginger beer to soothe upset stomachs.
Research studies begun in the 1980’s and beyond have verified ginger’s usefulness in aiding digestion. A 1999 study conducted in Germany showed ginger increased digestive movement through the stomach and duodenum. In addition, ginger is thought to fight harmful bacteria (like
E. coli and
streptococcus) without killing beneficial bacteria. Ginger also can work against ulcers caused by
Heliobacter pylori.
The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger have been shown to reduce hip and knee pain in some osteoarthritis patients.
For many years, ginger has been suggested as an aid to relieve or prevent nausea and vomiting related to pregnancy. A 1998 report reviewed 10 clinical studies and confirmed this relationship.
However, pregnant women should consult with their physician before using ginger. Taking 500 mg of ginger two or three times a day may also prove helpful in reducing motion sickness.
Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement, take one or two capsules a day with water or juice.

All Vitabase brand products are manufactured within the USA. This is an important for quality because the FDA inspects our manufacturing facilities regularly. In other countries, governmental agencies may not necessarily exercise much control over manufacturing processes.
We source our ingredients from around the world. This is important because the best available ingredients are not necessarily made in the United States. For example, we get our liquid herbal extract ingredients from Europe because they are absolutely the best on the market.
