History and Usage:

Neroli oil is derived from the flowers of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara) and possesses a bright, rejuvenating citrus scent tempered by floral notes. (Its fragrance is often compared to that of bergamot. Bergamot comes from a different variety of bitter orange.) The name comes from the town of Nerola, near Rome, where a princess of the ruling family established the fashionable use of the scent during the late-17th century.

Since then, Neroli has become one of the most-used fragrant essential oils and is central to the production of many perfumes. Certain qualities of the oil, besides its pleasing scent, make it ideal for application to the skin. It is not adversely affected by exposure to sunlight and it does not irritate the skin. Applied as a massage oil, it can help improve circulation and soften skin’s texture.
