Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a fatty acid that is found in every cell in the body. Uniquely functioning in both water and fat, the body uses Alpha Lipoic Acid to convert glucose into the energy needed for normal functions. Alpha Lipoic Acid also has antioxidant properties. For example, Alpha Lipoic Acid may be able to recycle more common antioxidants, such as vitamin C and glutathione, after the body exhausts their use. Also, Alpha Lipoic Acid increases the body’s formation of the antioxidant glutathione. Glutathione aids the body’s elimination of potentially harmful substances. Although small amounts are found in common vegetables, it is mainly generated by the body. Alpha Lipoic Acid works on the nervous system by entering into all parts of the nerve cell and protecting it from damage.
