Policosanols™ are a family of aliphatic alcohols that have various beneficial effects. The main policosanols are Octacosanol, Tetratriacontane, Triacontanol, Dotriacontane, Hexacosanol, Tetracosanol, Hexatriacontane and Docosanol. Rice is an excellent source of Docosanol. Octacosanol has the ability to reduce fatigue and increase performance. Docosanol, a primary active component of the herb Pygeum africanum, protects the prostate gland and maintains prostate health. Studies have suggested that policosanol can be very useful for reducing cholesterol levels.
