Glucosamine is an aminomonosaccharide synthesized from both glucose and L-glutamine, an amino acid. Glucosamine Sulfate is a necessary nutrient of joints and intestinal tissue and provides a link in the development of the joint lubricant synovial fluid. The sulfur in Glucosamine Sulfate 1000 attributes to the production of cartilage tissue.
Glucosamine can be either synthesized by man or found in nature from such sources as the exoskeletons of various sea creatures. Glucosamine is a required compound for the production and repair of tissues, e.g., cartilage, mucous membranes, heart valves, and the joint lubricating substance synovial fluid.
Many researchers have found glucosamine, either with or without chondroitin sulfate, to be effective against the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis results from the overuse of the joints, leading to inflammation, breakdown, and loss of joint cartilage. Osteoarthritis affects primarily the knees and hips, as well hand joints.
