Jarrow Formulas® Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is taken from sheep’s wool and cod liver oil, and is produced without Vitamin A. Vitamin D3 is fat-soluble. Kidneys convert vitamin D3 into calcitriol, which is the form of Vitamin D3, which is used by the body. This activated form greatly affects numerous tissues, e.g., bone, muscle, skin, intestine, and the cells involved in the immune system. The absorption of phosphorus and counts is enhanced by calcitriol. Calcitriol also triggers the synthesis of osteocalcin, which is a necessary structural protein in bones. Calcitriol is involved in the changing of the function of cells (proper cell differentiation), including prostate cells.
Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement,
adults take one (1) softgel daily, or as directed by
a health care professional. Store in a cool, dry
place and away from direct light.

Notes: Jarrow FORMULAS® Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is derived from cod liver oil and sheep’s wool and is free of Vitamin A. Vitamin D3 is converted by the kidneys into the hormone calcitriol, the active form of Vitamin D3, which affects a variety of target tissues, including bone, intestine, muscle, brain, skin and immune cells.* Calcitriol enhances calcium and phosphorous absorption and stimulates the synthesis of osteocalcin, an important structural protein in bone.* Also, calcitriol is involved in proper cell differentiation (changing of cell function), including in prostate cells.*
Other Ingredients: Gelatin, glycerin, water (capsule),
rice bran oil.
The role of Vitamin D in helping to maintain bone
density and strength is clear. It is required for the
process of moving calcium through the intestinal
wall into the bloodstream.†
Even though the human body can manufacture
Vitamin D under ideal circumstances, there is
strong evidence that much of the American population
suffers from a deficiency of the nutrient. This
means that supplementation may be important.
Two forms of Vitamin D are commonly found in
supplements; D-3 (cholecalciferol) and D-2 (ergocalciferol).
Vitamin D-3 is more bioactive. |
