Bruxism is the technical term used to describe tooth-grinding. If bruxism becomes a habit, teeth may become loose and damage to the gums and jaw may occur. Temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ) may be a result of tooth-grinding. Sensitivity to heat or cold, stress, allergies, or nutritional deficiencies may all contribute to bruxism.
