This condition can arise if the median nerve, a nerve that runs from the hand to the forearm, becomes pinched at the wrist area. The median nerve is the controller for sensation and pain to the palm side of the thumb and fingers, as well as the controller of impulses to multiple little muscles in the hand which are responsible for movement.
