Heartburn/Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Normally, the muscle at the bottom of the esophagus will control your food so that it stays in your stomach; however, with GERD, occurs when the contents "back up" and can even go back up into the back of the throat. This can occur due to your normal body functions not working properly, the contents of the stomach are too acidic, or the food is not cleared out of the esophagus quickly enough.
Helpful nutrients for this condition.
- Ibuprofen and aspirin can cause heartburn.
- If you lie down on your left side this may aid in relief of heartburn.
- Illnesses like cancer cause acid in excessive amounts in their system.
- See your doctor if you have heartburn more than 3 times a week.
- Use Calcium Carbonate as an antacid.
- Women who have more estrogen for instance pregnant and women who are on birth control pills are more likely to have heartburn.
Promotes healing of the intestinal tract. Aloe vera juice is recommended.
Pancreatin plus Bromelain
Enzymes which aid in digestive process.
Alleviates heartburn symptoms. Chewable tablets are recommended.
Vitamin B complex
Aids in healthy digestion.
Lozenge or sublingual form is recommended.

Aloe vera juice
Aloe vera juice seems to be able to assist healing of the intestinal tract.
Catnip, Fennel, Ginger, & Marshmallow Root, & Papaya Tea
These five herbs have been beneficial in ensuring good digestion and help to ensure that heartburn does not occur.
Chamomile Tea is very soothing to the digestive system, as well as the esophagus.
Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL)
DGL is the extract from the root of true licorice. Licorice is chosen for its multiple medicinal benefits including peptic ulcer healing, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, & antioxidant properties.
- Angina and heart attacks sometimes appear as heartburn. Watch for other signs like pain in the left arm, feelings of weakness, shortness of breath, and dizziness. These can be signs of a more serious problem and should be brought to a doctor's attention immediately.
- Avoid using a multienzyme complex with hydrochloric acid (HCl).
- Check with your doctor to see if medications you are taking may be causing your heartburn.
- Consume a large glass of water when symptoms start.
- During your meal, do not drink anything but a glass of water with 1 tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar in it. This mixture should be sipped, not gulped.
- Fasting can be beneficial.
- Fresh cabbage or celery juice can be helpful.
- Fresh papaya and fresh pineapple will help with proper digestion. Papaya seeds are also beneficial.
- GERD can lead to more serious health conditions so if you experience heartburn for longer than two weeks, you should ask your doctor for help in determining the right course for you.
- Raise the head of your bed.
- Raw potato juice is recommended. After washing the potato, put it through the juicer and then dilute with water. Repeat three times total each day.
- Regular light exercise before eating is necessary. Things like walking, light aerobics, and biking are recommended. Running and weight lifting are not recommended.
- Stay away from acidic fruits and juices.
- Stay away from fats, fried foods, carbonated beverages, peppermint, spearmint, tobacco, processed foods, tomatoes, caffeine, onions, sugar, and spicy or strongly seasoned foods.
- Stay out of situations that can cause stress or anger.
- Stop eating three hours before you go to bed.
- Wear loose-fitting clothes.
