Safe to take before surgery

Question Details

Im taking blood sugar formula. Is it safe to take a day before undergoing colonoscopy? Thank you

The biggest concern with taking supplements prior to any invasive procedure is the risk of inhibiting the clotting potential of the blood therefore increasing the risk of severe bleeding.  Certain supplements and herbs are much more likely to cause this (Fish oil, vitamin E, Ginkgo, CoQ10) but because so little is known about how natural medicines affect the clotting cascade I recommend discontinuing pretty much all supplements prior to surgery.

The blood sugar support supplement does contain very small amounts of natural ingredients known to affect blood clotting.  The two of main concern are the vitamin E and the cayenne.  They are present in very low doses but it would be most prudent to avoid taking this formula prior to your procedure just to be on the safe side.
